About Us

We are the Reed and Sweetland family.

I was born in Peterhead and my brother in Aberdeen – our grandparents and parents were Aberdonians, and Dad worked as a sonar engineer on the fishing fleets around the coast of Scotland. We moved to England when we were small, but continued to spend much of our childhood in Scotland with our grandparents. Eventually, we found ourselves at risk of losing touch with our beloved Scottish heritage. So, we decided to re-establish our roots by creating a property that we could use as a family holiday home and run as a holiday rental.

We designed and built Sealladh-an-Loch specifically to provide our own extended family with a luxurious and spacious, yet cosy and comfortable holiday home. The decor is clean and simple to accentuate the light and space – furnishings and accessories are carefully selected to represent Scotland where possible and to add those touches of luxury.

Mum and Dad were passionate about this project. It was Mum and Dad who found the building plot – we bought it from their description, without even seeing it for ourselves. Tragically, Mum passed away just 5 months after the house was finished – we take some comfort from the knowledge that she did at least see it finished and was able to put the crockery in the cupboards! In the same year, Dad was diagnosed with Parkinsons.

This house is part of their legacy for our expanding family – the new generations coming through already love the ‘Scotland’ house. Some of our family heritage is displayed in the snooker hall, and ‘Mum’s tree and bench’ are at the top of the garden.

As well as offering family home, we place enormous importance on customer service at every step of our guest’s experience – from point of enquiry, queries, bookings, arrival and of course during your stay and departure. We pride ourselves on providing exceptional customer service – it has been described as ‘exemplary.’

We are a small but brilliant team – I manage enquiries, bookings and pre-arrival queries. Our housekeeper, Lorna, is the first point of contact for guests on arrival and during your stay. We have a cleaner to support Lorna, plus a gardener who also helps out with maintenance.

We provide fresh flowers & a welcome pack – guests can enjoy a hot drink and homemade cake as soon as you arrive. At Christmas and New Year, we provide a ‘hamper’ of Scottish seasonal goodies. For guests who are having a special celebration, we can arrange a personal chef and/or a bagpiper.

Our guests regularly leave glowing reviews – recurring themes include customer service, space and flexibility for large groups and families of all ages, ideal for celebrations, location/views/scenery, cleanliness, facilities, snooker table and well-equipped kitchen.

The house delivers exactly what we intended and we are incredibly proud.
