Guests can also enjoy the grounds. The gardens are steeply sloped and maintained in a natural style. To the rear, the grass and wild flowers are left to grow naturally – there is a path leading up to a viewing point and ‘Mum’s bench’ where guests can enjoy a panoramic view of the Loch and mountains.

A large patio provides a flat area, with some garden benches and two large charcoal barbecues. Guests can enjoy the front garden from the decked area.

As well as taking the opportunity to relax and enjoy the house and garden, you may wish to enjoy some of the activities and facilities nearby. Here, we have provided information for the immediate locality, plus a few personal recommendations for trips further afield.

Walking/Wildlife

For guests who like to walk, bird-watch or enjoy the wildlife, footpaths & viewing points can be accessed direct from the house. The house is on the route of the South Loch Ness Trail, and the ‘Falls of Foyers’ are only 1.5 miles away. Guests can walk through the forest to see the dramatic gorge & waterfall, before continuing down to the shores of Loch Ness. There are several marked walks around the house and the village. We have provided some maps in the house, but you can also buy a ‘Paths Around Foyers’ map at Foyers Stores.

We are located right on the route of the cycling event Etape Loch Ness. Guests can enjoy the event from the comfort of the house, as cyclists ride past.

Fort Augustus

Fort Augustus is a lively little ‘touristy’ village located about 40 minutes away on the southernmost point of Loch Ness. Make sure you stop off at the Suidhe Viewpoint on the way, to enjoy 360 degrees of spectacular scenery.

Fort Augustus offers gift shops and lots of places to eat and drink, but is most notable for the impressive flight of locks that link Loch Ness with the Caledonian Canal.

Drumnadrochit

Drumnadrochit is another tourist village, located about an hour away at the head of Urquhart Bay on the northern shore of Loch Ness.

As well as enjoying the gift shops, you can visit the Loch Ness Centre, the ‘home’ of the Loch Ness Monster mystery, and even take a Deepscan Cruise to learn about the scientific research into Loch Ness and search the depths using world-class sonar equipment.

The ruins of Urquhart Castle are located just outside Drumnadrochit. Whilst enjoying its wild natural beauty and stunning views over Loch Ness from the Grant Tower, you can discover 1,000 years of drama and medieval life.

Boleskine House

Next door to us is Boleskine House, with its incredible historical legacy & heritage as a Jacobean & Georgian hunting lodge, and its infamous history as the home of author/occultist Aleister Crowley & Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. The Boleskine House Foundation is in the process of restoring the house and its 35 acres of magnificent grounds using a sensitive, conservation-led approach, with an emphasis on re-wilding and enhancement of bio-diversity. We fully support their vision – we have a great relationship with them and are able to offer our guests tours of the house/grounds by prior arrangement.
